Welcome!

Welcome to the Region 3 Girl Scouts Blog!!!

As the merge/realignment moves forward, we will soon be losing our valued managers, Maureen and Robin. With that in mind, until a decision is made on replacement(s) and if the office is staying in Portsmouth, etc., we will need to be our own valuable resource. The intent of this blog is for leaders and service unit members to ask questions and offer advice. This can also be a town crier blog where you can alert people to either girl scout offers in our area, something you found out that would be good for us to know, etc.

I have not sent this to anyone other than service unit members of the cluster area that our group thought should be included for region 3. Do we want to keep this as a service unit manager-type blog only or do we want to open up to leaders as well?

Hi Dee,

I think it should stay as is. We need a place that we can talk with each other, get advice and discuss things.

Question for the masses!

Does your SU Financial Manager position run as an independent position or a support to the SUM position.

I have always done ours as a support position. Stipulating that all financial transactions, especial debits need to be authorized by me or council, that no information about the account(s) can be given out without authorization ect. My leader's seem surprised by that...I was wondering if I'm the norm or the exception.

Our financial manager runs as one of the service unit postions so that she is the third signer on every checking account. She also has access to all accounts and has already caught a few things and has made sure the troop doesn't do the error again. With that being said, you have to trust the person that is your manager, which depending on how many troops you have, isn't the easiest. With this being a 3 year job, our financial manager's 3 years is up this year. I've really had to look close at who I feel I can trust. It's not the easiest position to fill. A spreadsheet or at least a snapshot of the account is presented at every leaders meeting. We don't use much of the service unit $$ until the end of the year so we haven't had to worry about it but if there is an expense, it is agreed we vote on it.
